Ingredients

Scale
  • 3/4 cup hot water
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup powdered milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt or salt substitute
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Combine the hot water and the butter or margarine together in a large bowl. Mix in the egg, powdered milk and salt.
  3. Slowly add the flour, about a half a cup at a time and stirring as you go.
  4. Knead the mixture until you form a stiff dough.
  5. Roll it out on a floured surface so that it is about 1/2 inch thick.
  6. Using your bone-shaped cookie cutter, cut the dough into bone shapes and transfer them to your lightly greased cookie sheet.
  7. Bake for about 50 minutes.
  8. Cool completely before serving. They should be nice and hard, like a crunchy biscuit. Store in an airtight container.
