- 3/4 cup hot water
- 1/3 cup butter or margarine
- 1/2 cup powdered milk
- 1 teaspoon salt or salt substitute
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3 cups whole wheat flour
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325 degrees.
- Combine the hot water and the butter or margarine together in a large bowl. Mix in the egg, powdered milk and salt.
- Slowly add the flour, about a half a cup at a time and stirring as you go.
- Knead the mixture until you form a stiff dough.
- Roll it out on a floured surface so that it is about 1/2 inch thick.
- Using your bone-shaped cookie cutter, cut the dough into bone shapes and transfer them to your lightly greased cookie sheet.
- Bake for about 50 minutes.
- Cool completely before serving. They should be nice and hard, like a crunchy biscuit. Store in an airtight container.
