Holiday Dog Treats Recipe: Christmas Trees

Ingredients

  • 2 C wheat flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 C creamy peanut butter
  • 1 C skim milk
  • Icing Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 tsp meringue powder
  • 1/2 C powdered sugar
  • 34 TBSP warm water
  • Green & red gel food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. -Combine flour and baking powder in a bowl.
  3. -Whisk together the milk and creamy peanut butter.
  4. -Add flour mixture a little at a time.
  5. -Mix until fully incorporated.
  6. -Toss some wheat flour on a cutting board.
  7. -Roll out dough with a wheat flour-covered rolling pin.
  8. -Roll out the dough and using the Christmas Tree cookie cutter, cut out the doggie treats.
  9. -Transfer the Christmas Tree to a parchment lined cookie sheet.
  10. -Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes.
  11. -Allow to cool completely on the cookie sheet.
  12. Icing Directions:
  13. -Combine all ingredients (not food coloring) into a bowl.
  14. -Beat with an electric mixing until icing can hold a stiff peak.
  15. -Divide the icing into two bowls.
  16. -In bowl #,1 adds several drops of green gel food coloring, stirring well.
  17. -In bowl #2 several drops of red gel food coloring, stirring well.
  18. -Spoon the green icing into a frosting bag with #2 tip.
  19. -Twist the open end of the frosting bag to push the icing to the tip.
  20. Outline the Christmas tree with the green icing.
  21. -Allow the outlining to dry for about 30 seconds.
  22. -Spoon the red icing into another frosting bag with a #2 tip.
  23. -Twist the open end of the frosting bag to push the red icing to the tip.
  24. -Add small red dots to the tree for decorations.
  25. -Allow to dry for about 1 hour. Check to see if the icing is dry.
  26. Outline the Christmas tree with the green icing.
  27. -Allow the outlining to dry for about 30 seconds.
  28. -Spoon the red icing into another frosting bag with a #2 tip.
  29. -Twist the open end of the frosting bag to push the red icing to the tip.
  30. -Add small red dots to the tree for decorations.
  31. -Allow to dry for about 1 hour. Check to see if the icing is dry.
