- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup oats (rolled or quick oats)
- 1/2 cup fresh blueberries
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt (unsweetened and unflavored)
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup honey (optional; for added sweetness)
- One egg
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with paper liners or lightly grease the muffin cups.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, oats, and baking powder. Stir to mix them evenly.
- Mix wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the applesauce, Greek yogurt, water, honey (if using), and the egg.
- Combine wet and dry: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
- Add blueberries: Gently fold in the fresh blueberries. Make sure they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Fill muffin cups: Using a spoon or ice cream scoop, fill the muffin cups about 2/3 full with the batter. Smooth the tops if necessary.
- Bake: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 20-25 minutes, until the muffins are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool: Allow the muffins to cool in the tin for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Serve: Once the muffins have cooled, you can serve them to your dog as a special treat. Remember to cut them into appropriately sized pieces for your dog’s size and supervise them while enjoying their muffin.
Notes
If your dog is allergic to wheat, you can swap it out for coconut flour, almond flour, or other pet-safe alternatives.
