Knowing how to save money on dog food is a major plus for anyone with dogs, believe us, we know! For those of us with dogs, they are a part of the family! Whether you allow them on the furniture or not (hey, why not? You sit there don’t you?), you still want them to have the best diet, wet or dry. But just like our healthy foods, good dog foods can get pricey. Here are some ways to save money on dog food.
How to Save Money on Dog Food
Coupons and in-store sales: Combine the two for the best savings! If you have been living under a rock, let me be the one to tell you that the Sunday paper has a boatload of coupons. Granted there are not always coupons for dog food, you should look through anyways. Also, check coupon sites online. You can print them and often are allowed to print up to 3 per computer you use! Some sites to check are KrazyKouponLady.com, passionforsavings.com and hip2save.com.
Warehouse Clubs: Places like BJ’s, Costco and Sam’s Club are great places to get your dog food. The quantity is huge and lasts a while and at a great price. You do have to have a membership for these stores, which is paid yearly and often very inexpensive compared to the savings you will have. However, there are often mailers that go out offering a free 30-60 day trial membership. Check them out and see if this might be the best ways to save money on dog food!
Contact the companies: A great thing to do and companies love it! Contact them via email and let them know how much you love their dog food and they will send you coupons and maybe even some free samples!
Make your own: Although it might seem costly up front, the health benefits and amount made will be less costly in the long run. Be sure to pay attention to protein, it is very important in their diet! If you only use dry food, it can be a little more involved than if you supplement with wet food (which you can also make!) You also want to consult your vet first before trying this route. They can guide you in the right direction for what your pet needs to have for his diet. If making your own food is too daunting, try making your own homemade dog treat recipes!
Social Media: Get on Twitter, Facebook and even Instagram and follow your favorite brands for deal and coupons. They often have giveaways and samples as well!
Buy online: You might already be purchasing your pet meds online but may have never thought of buying your dog food online. It can be less expensive, and sometimes you can get free shipping with a minimum purchase or you can search online for free shipping codes as well for whatever site you are ordering from. (Affiliate link) Entirely Pets and Healthy Pets have free shipping with a minimum purchase.
Maybe if you start to find ways to save money on dog food, you might be inspired to find others ways to save as well! Hopefully this list is a helpful starter for you!
