Royal Canin has taken a different approach to hypoallergenic dog food than other companies have. Their Hydrolyzed protein blend takes the approach of easy gastrointestinal issues due to food allergies by making the food easier to digest.
Easy on the Digestive Tract
Using a hydrolyzed soy protein, their hypoallergenic dog food is designed for easy digestion, which makes it easier on sensitive stomachs. In addition to that, it uses rice as the only carbohydrate source. This is also designed for easy digestions.
Promotes Whole Body Health
Aside from being hypoallergenic, their hydrolyzed protein blend also uses ingredients designed to minimize the risk of kidney stones, increase dental health, and which contain higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids to reduce whole body inflammation and promote skin and coat health.
Royal Canin Hypoallergenic Dog Food for Small Breeds
Royal Canin’s small breed formula came out while I was still working at the vet. The ingredients are exactly the same as the large breed version of their Hydrolyzed Protein hypoallergenic dog food. The difference is that the kibble is smaller, making it easier for small mouths to eat.
That’s a big deal. When I worked at the vet, several owners of small breeds had to feed their dogs the hydrolyzed protein diet, and while it worked wonders for their dogs’ digestive tracts, it was exceedingly difficult for their little guys to eat. We had Maltese, Chihuahuas, and Toy Poodles on this food, to name a few, and our clients frequently complained that it was difficult for their dogs to eat the food. In fact, several of our clients had to soften the food with water so their little guys could eat it at all.
I can tell you, we had some incredibly happy clients and dogs when Royal Canin came out with the small breed version of their hypoallergenic dog food. Our clients came in and raved about not having to soak the food in water or watch their dogs practically crack their jaws in order to eat kibble that was far too big for their mouths.
Royal Canin Hypoallergenic Dog Food Small Breed
While this hypoallergenic dog food is great, it’s not for every dog. Your vet will help you decide if the hydrolyzed protein formula is worth a try for your dog. If you do decide to go the hydrolyzed protein hypoallergenic dog food route, Royal Canin’s small breed formula makes it easy for your dogs to get the hypoallergenic dog food they need to keep them feeling happy and healthy.
