Places to Take Your Dog on a Rainy Day
Indoor Dog Park
If there’s one available in your area, an indoor dog park is the ideal place to have fun with your dog on rainy days. Not only do these parks provide a dry place for both of you to unwind, they also tend to provide toys or play equipment for you and your best buddy to use.
Many indoor dog parks have staff members on-hand to make sure that all of the dogs there are playing in a way that’s appropriate. Some of them may also offer classes or training programs that you can sign up for. Not only is an indoor dog park a great place for you and your dog to hang out, it gives your dog a great opportunity to be around other dogs in a safe environment.
Pet Store
Taking your dog to any store gives you both something to do (as long as he can stay out of trouble.) But, a pet-themed outlet store is a perfect choice. Many merchants are pet-friendly, so they’re accustomed to having owners bring their pets to the store.
Walk him down the aisles and let him “help” you pick out a new toy. Give him a chance to meet the other dogs that people bring into the store. Your dog will love the chance to go shopping with you and he will also get more used to being around other people and animals.
Groomer
A dog groomer or dog spa is a great place to take your pet to get pampered while the weather is bad. At a groomer, your dog can get a bath and a haircut, as well as get their nails clipped. This could be just what they need if they’ve been playing in the mud or the rain.
Some dogs may not exactly be thrilled about going to the groomer, but your dog may have a better time being pampered than you think. You just have to give it a try, to see what happens!
Stay At Home
Even if the weather is too bad for your dog to play out in the yard, you can still have a good time with him at home. Have him sit while you hide treats throughout the house, then let him go sniff them out.
Set up an obstacle course and help him run it. Play catch with a soft toy down a long hallway. Remember, being confined to the house doesn’t have to mean that your dog can’t have some active playtime.
These are just a few rainy day destinations for you and your dog. Bad weather doesn’t have to bring you down. Simply pack up the car and head on down the road for an afternoon of fun. You know you want to!
