I am not sure what it is about vacuum cleaners, but many dogs just don’t seem to like them at all. When the vacuum cleaner is going, most dogs will either run and hide or they will bark constantly. However, one dog has learned how to turn off the annoying vacuum cleaner once and for all.
Shasta, a Fox Red Labrador, just wants to enjoy some peace and quiet. However, the Roomba has other plans: cleaning the floor. So, Shasta has learned how to turn off the noisy Roomba by using her nose to hit the Roomba’s power button.

So, how exactly does a dog know how to turn off a vacuum? In a 2011 article in Psychology Today, professor Stanley Coren sheds some light on the question. Coren states, “Using only family pets, which were not specifically trained to understand language and gestures, I came to the conclusion that dogs had the mental ability roughly equivalent to a human two-year-old. Further work led me to believe that the most intelligent dogs might have the mental abilities similar to a human two-and-a-half-year-old child.”
About the Fox Red Labrador dog breed: Here are some interesting tidbits about this dog breed. The Fox Red Labrador is actually a Yellow Labrador. According to the American Kennel Club, the Yellow Labrador dog breed, “Yellow–Yellows may range in color from fox-red to light cream, with variations in shading on the ears, back, and underparts of the dog.”
