Buying the best dog carriers is not the easiest thing in the world. Sure you can pick up any old thing, and it would work, but does your dog deserve to be safe and comfortable? Of course, they do! Spend a little time to find the highest quality dog carriers and your dog will appreciate the efforts. In fact, you will benefit as well in the end. Here are a few tips for picking out the best dog carriers.

Choosing the best dog carriers for your dogs

Make sure they can turn around

Picking the right size is key, and a good way to do that is to make sure they can turn around comfortably. If not, the carrier is far too small. Don’t make it too big either or else you will be wasting space, and they lose the sense of comfort and snugness. The height should come to their shoulder or so while still being able to turn around. The Sherpa Delta Deluxe Medium Pet Carrier, for example, is just right for dogs under 16 pounds.

Spend for quality

Like anything else, you get what you pay for in dog carriers. The last thing you want is a cheaply made piece of plastic that is going to be ruined in no time flat. Dogs will be uncomfortable, and they will almost certainly not want to spend time in a carrier that is falling apart. Spend a few extra bucks and your dog carrier will last a lifetime. While you don’t need to spend thousands on designer dog carriers (unless you want to!), spending a little extra for high quality is a good idea.

Make sure it is well ventilated

Ventilation is extremely important, yet amazingly, there are dog carriers out there that are not up to snuff. Check with your vet for standards on ventilation and know that your dog should feel protected and indoors, without feeling like he can’t breathe. Check to be sure he has plenty of ventilation in his carrier before buying.

Make sure there are no sharp inside pieces

Another common problem with cheap dog carriers are sharp parts of the plastic. You have to run your hands inside the carrier and make certain there are no areas that could cut or harm your puppy. Though it seems unbelievable, you would be surprised at how many poorly constructed carriers are on the market. A quick check can rule this out easily.

Try to find padded bottoms

They now make dog carriers that have soft bottoms for the comfort of your dog. This little-added feature is quite worth the money and makes for a bit of luxury for your puppy. If you can find a padded bottom carrier, your dog will thank you for it and be much more inclined to hop in when you ask them to.

Finding the best dog carriers is really about consideration. Treat it as though you, yourself would be riding in it from a safety and comfort standpoint. Make sure you spend some time on getting the right size, and you will have the perfect choice in no time.
