First, though, let’s talk about why you’d want a heated dog house even if your pup stays indoors most of the time.
Content & Quick Navigation
Why get a heated dog house?
Since I know there is at least one of you reading this and thinking, “you don’t need a heated dog house because dogs belong in YOUR already-heated house,” let me beat you to the soapbox.
I agree. 100%. On that last point, at least.
I am totally behind you on the whole “dogs belong in the home and not out in the yard 24/7.”
However, a heated dog house is still a great idea for those times when Fido is hanging out in the backyard.
Perhaps you have a bit of an unruly dog that goes bonkers when you have company, so you need to put her outside for a bit during the visit (which is better than locking her in a room, really).
Or maybe you simply have a dog that just likes being outdoors and you want to make sure she has a warm, cozy place to relax that’s all her own.
I’ve had dogs for the last 18 years.
While all of them spent 99.999% of their time indoors with me, I STILL make sure they have warm outdoor options as well, even if they’re not as fancy as some of the houses below.
So, you see, wanting a heated dog house has absolutely nothing to do with being a neglectful dog parent. Okay? Good.
Now that we’ve cleared all of that up, let’s take a look at the best heated houses and accessories to put into them.

Top 5 Best Heated Dog Houses

It’s really hard to find heated dog houses straight out of the box online.
You can’t just head to Amazon and buy a house complete with electric heat and have it delivered in two days.
Well, aside from maybe one or two options on our list, anyway (and even they aren’t Prime-eligible, so the two-day thing is out).
What you can do, however, is buy a really great insulated dog house that will keep your pup warm naturally and may add a heater (like this one) on your own.
So, with that in mind, while two of the houses DO come with heating elements, the rest are, in my opinion, perfect for an add-on heater
The first four are on Amazon, while the last one is from another one of our favorite pet furniture stores and is best for small dogs.
Use the table below to navigate through our top Amazon picks for both houses and accessories, then read on for more details.

1. ASL Solutions Deluxe Insulated Dog Palace with Floor Heater Review
The ASL is one of the very few dog houses that I could find with an included heating element that also has a good number of positive reviews.
Features & Pros
- Insulated with 2-4 inches of real foam in every single panel.
- Self-closing door (not a flap) keeps wind and rain from getting inside.
- Great for medium to large dogs
- Windows can be opened for warmer months and closed for the colder months.
- Floor is insulated and raised to keep your dog dry and warm.
- Includes a floor heater for extra warmth.
- Free shipping
Cons
- No options for small dogs or giant breed dogs.
- Only available through 3rd party sellers.
- The door is a little high off the ground, so not a great option for arthritic dogs
Recommendation
As I said, this is one of few options that actually comes with a heating element, so it’s definitely a contender for the best outdoor heated dog house!
Although it’s a 3rd-party-seller option, you do have a good selection of sellers from which to choose.
I like that the windows self-store, meaning you can open them in the summer without losing them.
While it’s not a great option for small or XXL dogs, it’s a good pick for our mid-range canine companions.
2. B&G Solid Wood Construction Heated Dog House

If you want a stylish heated dog house that easily fits two dogs and includes a heating element right “out of the box,” try this one!
Features & Pros
- Big enough for two large-breed dogs.
- Removable partition, so your dogs can either have their own space or share with each other.
- The removable partition also makes it big enough for XL breeds.
- Made with solid wood construction.
- Removable roof and floor panels for easy cleaning.
- Comes with the Hound Heater
Cons
- Only available through 3rd party sellers.
- No free shipping, although the shipping is pretty cheap.
- Non-returnable and non-refundable, so if you don’t like it, you’re out a good chunk of change.
Recommendation
If you’re looking for the best outdoor heated dog house and willing to take a chance on something from a 3rd party seller, this really is a great option.
While I don’t love that craptastic return policy (even if they do make an exception, you still have to pay a 20-25% “restocking fee”), I do love the house itself.
Yes, it’s a big risk, but the seller does have fantastic overall reviews, so it may be worth it!
- Perfect for multiple dogs or one large dog!
- Solid Wood Construction
- Features a removable partition and double doors
- Internal without partition: 60W x 30D x 40H inches
- Door Opening (on each side): 18W x 24H inches
3. Climate Master Plus Insulated Dog House for Large Breeds

It may not be as pretty as some of the other options on this list, but if you want a great extra large insulated dog house for winter, this is the one for you.
Features & Pros
- XL insulated house is made just for large breed dogs up to 220lbs.
- The trademark design keeps it warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer, and more resistant to everything from water to bugs.
- Patent-pending design makes it more durable and stable than traditional cedar houses.
- Features an advanced all-weather door with weather seals and shatter-resistant panels.
- Very well insulated on its own, and easy enough to add a heated pad (or that add-on heater we talked about earlier).
- Made in the USA & assembles in just about 10 minutes.
- Easy to remove the roof if necessary, no tools required
- Backed by 90-day full satisfaction guarantee and a 5-year warranty.
Cons
- The obvious con: it’s quite pricey (although reasonable for the quality)
- At 160lbs, it’s definitely heavy, so unless you’re the Hulk, you’ll need help setting it up.
- Kind of an eh design (a little boring)
- No heating element included (at that price, it would be nice to have one thrown in for good measure)
Recommendation
It may not be the cutest house on the block, but we’re looking for warmth versus style, right?
While this one doesn’t come with a heating element, the insulation is top of the line, so it’ll do a great job of keeping your pooch warm without one.
The price is a little out of my range, but if you can swing it, it’s quite possibly my favorite option on this list for large dogs.
- The extra large insulated dog house is designed specifically for large dog breeds weighing up to about 220 lbs, including larger Alaskan Malamutes, large male Rottweilers, most Great Pyrenees, most Saint Bernards, most Bullmastiffs, and other similar-sized dogs.
- External Dimensions - 44 3/4 Width x 47" Depth x 49 1/4"
- Internal Dimesnsions - 36 1/2" Width x 38" Depth x 43 1/4"
- Weight - 160 lbs
- Door Size - 16" Wide x 23 3/4" High
4. Petmate Dogloo Igloo-Style Dog House

The Petmate Dogloo is among the most highly-rated outdoor dog houses for all seasons.
Features & Pros
- Classic igloo shape helps protect your dog from the elements.
- That same shape also keeps the house stable when it gets really windy.
- Naturally shields your dog from snow and other debris.
- Roof-top ventilation keeps air moving.
- Raised floor and sides keep snow and water out.
- Made with antimicrobial materials to fight the growth of bacteria.
- Easy enough to add a heated mat to the floor.
- Three sizes ranging from medium to XL
Cons
- Not heated on its own, and uses the shape rather than insulation to keep dogs warm.
- No door flap, so wind can get in through the front.
- No small option for toy breeds
Recommendation
Although it’s not my favorite option, the Dogloo does have great reviews, so it’s worth mentioning.
I would definitely add on some extra heating elements, like maybe a heated dog pad. I’d also add a flap to the front to help keep out wind.
I do like that it’s easy to clean, though!
- ALL SEASON PROTECTION INSULATED IGLOO DOG HOUSE: Patented dome design provides protection from rain, wind, sleet and snow. The offset. low and narrow entryway reduces direct wind flow and heat loss. Optimal for both warm and cold climates. The roof air vent allows fresh air to properly circulate.
- ENGINEERED STRONGER: Constructed from heavy-duty structural foam and dome shape, keep our dog houses stable in high winds, help shed snow and prevent debris accumulation on top. Third-party tested to over 1500 lbs of load strength.
- CHANNEL DENNING INSTINCTS: Dog crate or outdoor dog house training is vital for dogs safety and comfort. Give your dog a space they need to feel secure. Spacious, raised floor can accommodate a dog bed or dog pad for added cushion. The drainage holes keep the floor dry in the most extreme conditions.

We produce eco-friendly, sustainable, recyclable products from the dog kennel to litter boxes and many in between. Check out our all our brands: Aspen Pet, Arm & Hammer, Booda, Chuckit, and more.
- NOT JUST FOR DOGS: This can also work well for an outdoor cat house, goat house or even duck house. For added comfort, customize the Indigo Dog House with accessories like the Petmate Indigo Door and Petmate Indigo Pad, available for purchase separately.
5. Extra Large Cedar Insulated Small Dog House

This beautiful handmade cedar option is made by Cats Play Furniture and works best for smaller dogs.
Features & Pros
- Made from rot-resistant cedar and designed to last a lifetime
- Includes Thermal-Ply Insulation on all four sides
- They offer a heated pad add-on for a reasonable price, making it a heated dog house right out of the box, so to speak.
- Multiple other add-on options (like a vinyl flap or door insert) to make it the ultimate dog house!
- Handmade in North America
- Free shipping
Cons
- No options for larger dogs
- No customer reviews, so it’s hard to judge how others like it
Recommendation
Honestly, it’s hard to find things to not love about this option.
It’s handmade, so you’re supporting smaller businesses, which I love.
They give you options for turning it into a fully heated dog house, which I also adore.
The only negative thing I can say about it is that it’s too small for my dog! So, if you have a tiny pooch, this is definitely a fantastic pick.

Now that we’ve looked at the top heated dog houses, let’s check out accessories to keep your pooch extra toasty!
Best Heated Dog Pads, Beds, & Other Accessories
Since it’s so hard to find actual heated dog house online, heated dog pads, beds, mats and other accessories definitely come in handy!
We’ll be looking at those Amazon recommendations that I shared in the table as well as some great choices over at Chewy.
6. K&H Pet Products Lectro-Soft Outdoor Heated Bed

If you opt for any of the dog houses aside from the ASL one, you’ll want to grab yourself a heated dog mat, too.
My top choice is this one from K&H, a brand we’ve talked about a lot in our dog bed buying guides.
Features & Pros
- Safe for use outdoors, so it’s a fantastic addition to your dog house.
- Made with soft orthopedic memory foam for the utmost comfort.
- Includes a free fleece cover that you can machine-wash.
- The bed is thermostatically controlled and automatically responds to temperature changes.
- Steel-wrapped cord is only 60 watts, so it won’t kill your electric bill.
- Tested and certified to exceed USA electrical safety standards.
Cons
- The cord is a little short (about 5.5 feet long)
- The bed isn’t chew-resistant, so it’s a potentially dangerous option for puppies and other chewers.
- Cover really isn’t all that great according to a lot of customers (but since it’s a free bonus, I’m not complaining much).
- Only comes in one size.
Recommendation
As long as your dog isn’t a chewer, this is a great heated pad to help keep him warmer in his insulated dog house.
Unfortunately, if he does chew, you’re really not going to find any safe electric options.
I wish it came in more sizes, but the large is big enough for most dogs, so that’s a plus.
- OUTDOOR WARMTH: Outdoor heated dog bed with soft orthopedic foam base and includes free soft washable fleece cover
- KEEP PET COMFY: Thermostatically controlled to automatically respond to temperature changes to warm to your pet's normal body temperature
- FLEXIBLE FOR ANY SPACE: Ideal for sheds, garages, barns, or any sheltered area your outdoor pets hang out
- SAFE EFFICIENCY: This 25" x 36" heated dog pad features a 5-½ feet steel wrapped cord and uses only 60 watts of power, great for multiple cats too

- BRAND YOU TRUST: Designed & patented by K&H with OVER 20 years of experience in creating safe, innovative, quality products for pets
7. K&H Pet Products Self-Warming Pet Pad

If you love the idea of a warming pad but don’t want a cord that your puppy can chew, this is the next best option.
Again, it’s made by K&H, so you know it has a good reputation.
Features & Pros
- Soft microfleece covering keeps pets warm
- No dangerous cords (and no increase in your electric bill)
- Made from self-warming materials that radiate heat back to your pet.
- Reversible- flip it over for a whole new look
- Easy to clean- wash on gentle cycle and hang to dry.
- Available in 2 different color combinations so you can pick your favorite.
- Budget-friendly
Cons
- Not very thick
- Not the best option for very cold climates
- Only comes in one size
Recommendation
While it’s not enough to keep your dog warm on its own, this makes a great addition to a well-insulated dog house.
I just wish it came in more sizes and options, as it’s fairly limited.
- SELF-WARMING TECHNOLOGY: Unique self-warming plush material captures your pet's body heat and radiates the warmth back to your dog or cat for a cozy self heating pet mat
- VERSATILE: Soft, plush reversible sides to match any décor; measures 17" x 21" that easily fits on furniture, inside your pet’s bed, in their crate, or anywhere in your home or on the go
- SLEEP SURFACE: Soft microfleece top creates a warm, cozy and comfortable cat sleeping bed
- NO ELECTRICITY NEEDED: Safely and naturally keeps your pet warm using their own comfortable and cozy body temperature

Recommendation
I’ll be honest here, I don’t know a lot about solar panels, so I went off of other’s reviews and ratings.
These seems reasonably priced and well-rated. Since they have a good warranty, I really don’t see how you can go wrong with them.

9. Cozy Products Cozy Pet Warmer Radiant Heating Panel

If you can’t afford one of the heated dog houses and want to make your own, this will help you do it.
While it’s not a complete heating solution, it definitely takes the chill out of the air a bit.
Features & Pros
- Flat-panel heater helps keep your pets warm when they need it.
- Only uses 200 watts, so it’s less likely to overheat and keeps energy costs down.
- Uses radiant heat, so your pet just has to be near and not right on top of it (as with the heated bed).
- Two customizable temperature settings.
- Certified zero-clearance to minimize fire hazard.
- Uses only 13% of the energy required by a space heater.
- It’s versatile and portable.
Cons
- No automatic shut-off feature unless it reaches 180F, which is WAY too hot.
- Doesn’t adjust to temperature around you, so if the weather warms up, it’ll still stay on.
- Made primarily for indoor use, so it’s best for shed-like dog houses (versus plastic houses).
Recommendation
If you need something to help warm up your pet’s indoor space or plan on building/buying a shed-like dog house (in other words, more “house” than the plastic ones), it’s a good option.
I do really wish that it had better automatic shut-off safety features, though.
- A COMPACT, PET-FRIENDLY HEATER: Cozy Pet Warmer is a safe, low wattage panel heater that provides gentle radiant heat to cats, dogs and other animals; The gentle heat is great for keeping elderly pets comfortable and warm while helping to relax stiff muscles and joints; Safe for use around puppies and kittens; For indoor use only
- SLEEK DESIGN SAVES SPACE: Our ultra thin, flat panel Cozy Pet Warmer measures only 5/8" thick and resembles a computer monitor; Ideal for placing next to the cat or dog bed to provide a little extra warmth without taking up unnecessary space
- SAFE AND SILENT: As a Certified Zero-Clearance item, the Cozy Pet Warmer has been tested for safety and effectively reduces energy consumption, tripped circuit breakers, and other possible fire hazards; Cozy Pet Warmer is not designed to heat an entire room or space; Our panel heater provides quiet, highly focused warmth to keep your cat, dog, or other pets warm and cozy, without wasting energy by heating the entire room
- ECO-FRIENDLY AND LOW WATTAGE: Typical space heaters use 1500-2500 watts, which wastes energy and money; The Cozy Pet Warmer uses only 200 watts, and can help reduce energy output while cutting down money spent on your electric bills; Keep your pet warm, not the planet!
- MOUNTABLE DESIGN: Easy to mount anywhere using the unique “feet” that are included; Ideal for mounting inside the house, barn, stable, or any other indoor space where your furry friends need a little extra warmth and coziness
10. K&H Pet Products Microwavable Bed Warmer

If you really don’t want to hook up your dog’s house to electricity in any way or you’re worried about him chewing through cords, this is a good option.
Features & Pros
- Non-toxic durable neoprene cover and silicone bladder.
- Stays warm for up to 8 hours in a climate-controlled environment (so not quite as long in an outdoor dog house, see cons).
- Easy to use, just pop it in the microwave for 4-5 minutes.
- Easy to clean by hand.
- Soft, squishy and comfy
Cons
- It won’t keep your dog warm for a very long time outdoors.
- Not good for dogs who chew, even though you can “hide” it in their bed.
- Kind of pricey for what it is.
Recommendation
While this particular option isn’t really good for the long haul, if you just need to keep your dog in his house while you run down to the store, it’ll do.
I’m actually thinking about keeping one on hand for the times our power goes out (which happens way too often here).
- INDOOR/OUTDOOR: Indoors or outdoors, place in any pet bed to create a heated cat bed or heated dog bed
- SOFT NOT HARD: Unlike other microwave warmers, this pet warmer is soft and squishy when warm
- DURABLE: Durable neoprene cover protects the pet bed warmer and can be cleaned with soap and water
- NON-TOXIC: Non-toxic & no electrical outlet need for up to 12 hours of warmth in a cat or dog bed
- BRAND YOU TRUST: Designed by K&H Pet Products with OVER 20 years of experience in creating safe, innovative, quality products for pets; one year warranty
Final Recommendation
My biggest recommendation is to keep your dog indoors as much as possible during the winter, especially if you have a short-haired dog (like I do).
However, when that’s not possible, I’d go for the Climate Master! It’s super pricey but totally worth it, and definitely my pick for the best heated dog house!
