Collar – Without a dog collar you are going to have a horrible time controlling that new puppy. Dog collars are great for a number of reasons including providing a spot to carry important information on his tags. Most of all, you need a good dog collar to provide something to lead the dog with.

Leash – The dog collar only works if you have a high quality leash to go along with it. Leashes can be made of any number of materials up to and including chains for larger breeds. The key is to get the one that fits your dog best. Ask your vet if you are unsure what type of leash to use on your new puppy. This leash will be extremely important in training your dog to follow, heel and other dog training commands.

Crate – A dog crate is a wonderful tool if your dog lives inside with you and it is absolutely essential if you are house training them. This dog training aid will not only give the dog a place to rest and feel safe, it will also allow your home to stay pee pee free while you are away during short periods. A dog crate is one of the first things you should buy.

Clicker – A dog clicker allows you to mark behavior with your dog. Dogs respond far better to positive reinforcement than punishment and a dog clicker helps them to notice when they do something right. Each time they do a positive behavior, you click the dog training aid. They eventually start to associate good with the behavior through rewards.

Treats – Dog treats are also important dog training aids that you simply can’t do without when you get a new dog. These treats are a way for you to communicate approval to your dog. Be sure to use extremely small parts of the treat to leave them wanting more. This will also control any weight issues as the dog grows older. Believe it or not, they actually have healthy dog treats on the market too.

Dog training aids don’t have to be expensive or complicated to work. The most basic aids are the most effective and staying consistent will get great results.
