The 2016 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is in the books. The popular dog show took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City on February 15th and February 16th.  Dogs are judged for their pageant, form and poise. This year, the 140th year of the dog show, saw nearly 3,000 dogs from around the country. Also this year, there were seven new dog breeds introduced to the dog show for competition: Cirneco dell ‘Etna, Bergamasco Sheepdog, Lagotto Romagnolo, Spanish Water Dog, Miniature American Shepherd, Berger Picard and Boerboel.

This year the 2016 Best in Show award went to a German Shorthaired Pointer, named CJ, for short. This is the 3rd time a German Shorthaired Pointer has won this award: in 1974, Gretchenhof Columbia River won the award and in 2005, Kan-Point’s VJK Autumn Roses won the award.

CJ is short for GCH VJK Myst Garbonita’s California Journey. He is absolutely handsome and well-deserved of this award. While I love all dogs, I am a little dog person, you know, like Pomeranian and Chihuahua. But, this is obviously not a small dog but very cute nonetheless. CJ was born January 16, 2013. The 2016 Reserve Best in Show award was given to CH Belisarius JP My Sassy Girl, a female Borzoi born March 12, 2012. You can see picture of the Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show here.

Awards were also given in each breed group. For the Hound group. Lucy the Borzoi won the award, Panda the Shih Tzu won the award for the Toy group, Annabelle the Bulldog won for the Sporting group, Rumor the German Shepherd won the Herding group, Bogey the Samoyed won for the Working group and Charlie the Skye Terrier won the Terrier group.

Congratulations to Bogey the Samoyed for winning the Working group! #WKCDogShow pic.twitter.com/PSSE9rI6Pb

You can see all the winners for the group category here. My favorites here were Panda the Shih Tzu, Bogey the Samoyed and Annabelle the Bulldog. Such gorgeous dogs with amazing poise and form.

Did you catch the 2016 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show? Who was your pick for Best in Show?
